This privacy policy explains what information CompassPicks ("we", "us") collects when you visit compasspicks.com (the "site"), how we use it, and what choices you have. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.
1. What we collect
- Automatically: basic server logs including IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages viewed, and timestamps. We use this to detect abuse and improve site reliability.
- Cookies: small files stored in your browser. We use strictly necessary cookies for the site to function, and optional analytics cookies (only with your consent) to understand aggregate traffic.
- Affiliate tracking: when you click an affiliate link, the network (e.g. Awin) may set cookies on your device to attribute a future purchase to us. These cookies are set by the network, not by CompassPicks.
- Information you give us: name, email, and any message content when you contact us.
2. How we use it
- To operate and secure the site.
- To measure aggregate traffic and improve our content.
- To respond to your messages.
- To report anonymous click and conversion statistics to affiliate networks.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies and tracking
You can disable cookies at any time in your browser settings. Disabling cookies may prevent affiliate attribution, which means the merchant will not pay us a commission on your purchase — it will not affect the price you pay.
Analytics (if enabled): we may use privacy-respecting tools such as Plausible, Fathom, or Cloudflare Web Analytics. These do not set cross-site tracking cookies.
4. Affiliate networks
CompassPicks participates in affiliate programs, starting with Awin. When you click an outbound affiliate link, you leave our site. The destination has its own privacy policy which we encourage you to review.
5. Third-party services
The site is hosted on standard web infrastructure (e.g. Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, or Vercel). These providers process network-level metadata (IP address, request time) as part of delivering the site to you. They do not have access to personally identifiable information beyond that.
6. Data retention
Server logs are retained for up to 30 days and then deleted or anonymized. Email correspondence is retained as long as reasonably needed to resolve the matter, and then archived or deleted.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of certain processing. To exercise any of these rights email [email protected].
8. Children
The site is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU), and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. When we do we will revise the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, add a prominent notice on the site.
