CompassPicks is an independent editorial publication. We review products and services in four broad areas: hosting and VPS, company formation and banking, hotel and airline loyalty programs, and everyday shopping and cashback tools. Our goal is to help readers make better decisions by pointing them to brands who are reliable, transparent, and genuinely worth recommending.
Why we built this
Most "best of" sites in our categories rank whatever partner pays the highest commission. We got tired of reading reviews where the ranking clearly tracked the payout rather than the product. CompassPicks was built on one rule: we set our ratings before we look up the commission. A partner paying 3% can out-rank a partner paying 15% if it's genuinely better — and on CompassPicks, it often does.
Our editorial process
Every recommendation goes through a four-step loop:
- Vet the merchant. We verify contact details, business registration, returns and refund terms, and the presence of a clear privacy policy before we consider a listing.
- Test where we can. For consumer-facing partners we complete a test purchase, sign-up, or onboarding. For subscription services, we test the cancellation flow too.
- Cross-check independent reviews. We read a sample of recent real customer feedback on Trustpilot, Sitejabber, the BBB, Reddit, and forum threads, and weight our impression accordingly.
- Re-verify on a schedule. Listings are re-checked on a rolling 90-day cadence. If a partner degrades, the rating drops or the listing is pulled.
How we make money
CompassPicks is reader-supported. When you click an outbound link to a partner and complete a purchase or signup, the partner may pay us a commission. That commission never costs you extra and never affects where a partner lands in our rankings. We participate in several affiliate networks; we don't single-source our partnerships to any one network, and we don't promote which networks we use as selling points. Editorial independence
We don't accept paid placements. Partners cannot pay to be reviewed, to be ranked higher, or to have a negative review edited. We will occasionally accept a product sample or trial account for hands-on testing; when we do, we disclose it on the relevant review.

CompassPicks is an independent small editorial team with backgrounds in online business operations, frequent travel, and consumer research. We write under the CompassPicks byline rather than individual author bylines because our ratings are set by consensus after cross-reviewing — but the people doing the work are real humans. If you spot an inaccuracy — a stale price, a broken link, or a factual error — please email [email protected]. We aim to acknowledge corrections within two business days. Brands who feel a review is unfair can reach us at the same address.
